Q-1. Where does TBK train?
Ans: Most of our primary training is conducted at Breckenridge Ski Resort. We also have training at Arapahoe Basin and conduct camps at Mount Hood and other areas around the country and the world.
Q-2. How many members does TBK currently have?
Ans: Our current membership is approximately 135 athletes. We believe in maintaining small, individualized programs. Our membership includes all alpine disciplines, moguls and freeride programs.
Q-3. What is a Work Deposit and why do members have to pay this?
Ans: Youth organizations such as TBK revolve around a community and volunteer environment. TBK is no different. It is the support of our community and membership that lead to success. Whether it is hosting a competition for our local membership or hosting a fundraising event that helps support high level programs and lower program fees, our success is dependant on our involvement. Without volunteer membership support to enhance our programs, we must pay others to help accomplish our goals. The Work Deposit Program gives each family the option to either support the club with a personal investment of time or pay someone else to do the work that must be done.
Q-4. What Volunteer Hours are available to support TBK?
Ans: TBK has a variety of volunteer opportunities in which to work off a Work Deposit or simply help support this club and this community. We have a number subcommittees that are tasked with specific areas of commitments and interests that must be filled, we have administrative tasks available, we need on-hill and competition support, we host a number of fundraising events each year that require membership commitments, grant writing opportunities are available, support for our marketing and public relation programs, membership awareness, education and relations all play a vital role in our success and we need your support in all areas.
Q-5. Why are there 2 ski clubs in Summit County
Ans: Summit County is very fortunate to have two options for junior athletes to consider for alpine, mogul and freeride programs. Different philosophies, training techniques, cost, program sizes, coaching styles, allocation of resources and experiences are all considerations in selecting the program that best fits your needs and desires.
Q-6. We are considering a few ski programs in the area, how can we compare the different programs?
Ans: It is difficult to compare different clubs since each one has different program designs, resources, priorities and philosophies. First you can compare pricing. For example many clubs have additional fees over and above simple program fees. Some clubs have registration fees, travel fees, uniform fees, season pass fees and so on. You should also consider coaching experience, what is the coach turnover rate, what is the returning athlete rate, what is the size of each program and the coach to athlete ratio. Ask around. Talk to members from each club to understand strengths and weaknesses. Each club will have pros and cons. You should review not only the age group you children might be in today but also in the future. This is a long term investment in your child's development. Take some time to gather all the appropriate information and you will make the right decision.
Q-7. Do program fees include a season pass?
Ans: TBK program fees do not include season passes. Discounted season passes are avilable to TBK membership through Breckenridge Ski Resort beginning in October.
Q-8. How do I get my discount season pass voucher?
Ans: Once all membership requirements have been met, TBK will distribute your season pass voucher. Usually in mid October.
Q-9. Why did TBK changes its name from QSC?
Ans: Team Breckenridge Sports Club changed our name from Quantum Sports Club prior to the 2009-2010 season. This name change will allow us to more efficiently pursue our club goals.
Q-10. What is the difference between freestyle and freeride?
Ans: Freeride encompasses, slopestyle, terrain park, halfpipe, and big mountain skiing. Freestyle is generally considered moguls and aerials training and competition. TBSC currently offers all these programs with the exception of aerials.
