March 13, 2020
Dear Team Breckenridge Members,
The board of directors and I met tonight to discuss the rapidly evolving COVID-19 situation in Colorado as well as Summit County. We are so heartbroken to make the announcement that all Team Breck training and activities will be suspended until April 3.
The risk of contributing to the spread of COVID-19 to the community outweighs the benefits of continuing training and all other organized activities at Team Breck at this time. We will continue to monitor the situation and follow guidelines from the CDC, local health and government officials.
We are not aware of any specific exposure within the TBK community at this time but feel it is very important to follow recommended guidelines.
It is our hope that officials deem it safe enough to return to organized group activities by April 4. If that is the case, we will return to training. However, as we near that date, I will provide another update via email and through our website.
If we are able to return to training on April 4, Team Breck will not be accepting drop-in training athletes for the remainder of the season. It’s our highest priority to ensure the health and well-being of our coaches and athletes.
As of now, May training camps are still scheduled as planned. We will continue to be in communication with the resorts and following local health and government guidelines to see that we are making the best decision for our coaches and athletes as we move forward.
Thank you all for your support this season. We hope to see you in April!
It is our mission to provide our youth athletes with the positive environment and balanced guidance that fosters self-confidence, embraces goals, and nurtures a lifelong love for the mountains and snow sports!
Team Breckenridge Sports Club is a ski team for athletes of all ages and abilities. We offer programs for all alpine disciplines, freeride and moguls. Our programs begin at age 6 and continue through age 70. Over the years our programs have helped to produce over 50 members of the US Ski Team, US Olympic Team, US World Champion Team, US National Junior and Senior Champions, Junior Olympians and NCAA All Americans. This group of coaches and athletes have been successful in Breckenridge since 1988 and are recognized and respected internationally for our contribution to this sport.
Our primary goal is to help each athlete learn the necessary tools to be successful at any goal they choose, whether it is athletics, arts, education, occupation, or any other personal interest. Our philosophies are based on a long-term approach to athletics. Teaching ski racing and freeride skiing is secondary to the teaching of athletics as a way of life. An athletic lifestyle includes characteristics such as; respect, honor, responsibility, trust, initiative and dedication. TBK maintains that a small, individualized, athlete driven program is a beneficial environment for learning these characteristics. Each individual athlete is allowed to set their own goals and establish a plan to attain them.
TBK is a 501 (c)(3) Colorado non-profit corporation, a member of the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association and is recognized for participation in the Elite Athlete program through the Summit County School District.
